Ricky Gervais – “My Argument With God”
I believe this article, from Ricky Gervais’ website, speaks for itself, so I won’t ruin it with my own interpretation just yet, but if you’d like to hear my views, I’ll answer any questions you have in the comments. I … Continue reading

The Believer’s Brain – James Jay Lee
Clearly Lee is not going to come to the blog to respond any more, but this post is not for him. Odds are if/when I post this I’ll either close or heavily moderate comments, but this post is not for … Continue reading

The Believer’s Brain – Patty Boland Monheim Doyle
It seems that recently these debates are becoming much more common than I anticipated. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, because I believe that many of these discussions can be good opportunities to teach and learn. But at the same … Continue reading

In Defense Of Religion?
Lately I have been catching up on back episodes of The Infidel Guy. As I was listening to an episode from back in February, Episode 515 – A Defense Of Religion with Bruce Sheiman, I wanted to agree with the … Continue reading

The story of creation, according to genesis
In an effort to better examine why the claims of creationists don’t hold up to even the most basic scrutiny, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the two illogical and conflicting creation stories from the … Continue reading

Don’t oppose the “mosque”, oppose islam
I have already written about this “issue” of the non-mosque being built not at ground zero, and had not expected to cover this ground again, but: It seems to be all anybody can talk about lately, with people and organizations … Continue reading

Ted Turner Interviews Carl Sagan
As a kid growing up in Georgia, just outside Atlanta, in the 80′s Ted Turner was bigger than what most people view Bill Gates as today. He was the embodiment of business and along with Coca Cola and the Braves, … Continue reading

The Believer’s Brain – Fred Burgess
Another recent encounter with a believer on facebook (I swear I am not trying to engage so many, they just keep running across my path and I hate to see examples of faulty logic or uncritical thought go unchallenged) has … Continue reading
The Believer’s Brain – Ronald Eck
Recently I had another back and forth with a believer, which unfortunately seemed to lead nowhere. On a post by a mutual friend, Ronald Eck, piped up a few thoughts of his own completely unrelated to the purpose of the … Continue reading
Should we “allow” a “mosque” at “Ground Zero”
If today we bow to public pressure to stop one group from building a mosque, what’s to stop somebody tomorrow from using public sentiment to stop a Progressive or Humanist or Science organization from building something. We can not infringe on the rights of one group today, because that same justification can all too easily be used tomorrow against us. When we starting denying freedoms for some, we start denying freedoms for all. Continue reading

Why I support Fred Phelps
If we create laws today to limit his right to free speech, what is to stop somebody tomorrow from creating laws to limit your or my right to express ourselves? I would never want to unwittingly create a situation where we are no longer free to criticize the government or religion or pseudoscience or frauds or whatever we choose…
Freedom of Speech is to important to risk losing or even limiting. Continue reading

The Believer’s Brain – “LetsTalkChrist”
Today’s conversation in my ongoing segment, The Believer’s Brain, is one that I myself did not participate in, but is actually intended to get the believer(s) in question to answer a few questions and engage in an open and public … Continue reading

Death
I have a dog, an 11-year-old boxer, who has been my one guaranteed piece of happiness for the last few years. I’ve had some days at work where I was so miserable coming home, the only thing that helped lift … Continue reading

The Believer’s Brain – Jean Carolyn Marcel
I often find myself engaged in conversations with people of various belief systems, asking them to explain specifically what their beliefs are and how they know these beliefs to be true. Rarely do I get them to go so far … Continue reading

The tree of knowledge of good and evil
Everybody seems to know the story. As it’s generally understood, god created adam and eve in the garden of eden and said they could eat from any tree, except one. The talking snake comes along and convinced eve to take … Continue reading

Christopher Hitchens and Rabbi Shmuley Boteach Debate
There is an old saying when somebody is severely outmatched in a contest; “that person is playing checkers while their opponent is playing chess”. Essentially it means that somebody is doing such a bad job of holding their own, that … Continue reading

Everything in science (ok, much of science) “… Made Easy”
The following videos come from Potholer54 on YouTube, which I found quite a long time ago through The Mutt’s Nuts blog. Here I’d like to highlight a few of the “best” video’s (by my own definition of best obviously). I’d … Continue reading
