Bariatric Vitamins – Essential For Weight Loss Patients
Bariatric Vitamins: Essential for Weight Loss Patients
When you undergo vitamins for bariatric surgery patients, there are several changes in your eating habits that can impact your ability to get the nutrients your body needs. These changes can either cause restrictions in calorie intake or malabsorption of nutrients, making it difficult to get the vitamins and minerals you need without supplementation.
Your surgeon and dietitian will work with you to create a nutrition plan that will provide the proper amounts of all the vitamins and minerals your body needs. However, the amount of supplements you need will depend on many factors, including the type of bariatric surgery you have and your overall health.
Common Mistakes to Avoid When Taking Bariatric Vitamins
One of the most important vitamins to take following bariatric surgery is iron. This mineral is needed to make hemoglobin, which carries oxygen in the blood. A lack of iron can lead to a number of problems, including anemia.
Calcium is another vital nutrient that must be consumed regularly to maintain strong bones, teeth, and nerve function. Calcium is also needed for muscle contraction and clotting.
Vitamin D is another nutrient that should be taken after bariatric surgery, as it helps the body absorb calcium. A deficiency in this vitamin can result in bone loss and weakened immune systems.
The best bariatric vitamins are formulated specifically for post-bariatric surgery patients to ensure they get the vitamins and minerals they need. These supplements can be chewable, softchew, or liquid-based, and should be taken along with meals to increase absorption.
